an old school interview from my early days of spinning

This is an interview I did way back in 2008 when I had just put together my first drum and bass mix and played my first few shows. The interviewer was Solo Sexx member Velvet Vulture who I went to UMass with. I’m mostly putting this up for nostalgia purposes because a lot has changed since then, but it talks about how I started DJing and what it was like being a raver in Ohio when I was first getting into DNB.

Interviewer: Velvet Vulture aka Julia Sherratt
DJ: DJ Badboon aka Brandon Smith

Velvet Vulture: How long have you been a DJ, and what got you interested in the first place?

DJ Badboon: I’ve been DJing for about 4 years now but I’ve only really gotten into it in the past 2. Fluid Thursday 2/16/12

The 413 DNB crew and LTD Unlimited productions was back at The Elevens in Northampton MA with another Fluid Thursday event, continuing a 5+ year tradition of bringing the best drum and bass to western mass. This week I opened for live band Leave It On Stage, who played an awesome drum and bass set on an huge live rig of synths, drums and laptops that took up the whole stage. I’ll be playing a special St. Patrick’s day edition of Fluid on Saturday March 17th featuring an all-Irish DJ Lineup playing (what else?) killer drum and bass for your dome!

Icebreaker 1/28/12

Hyping the crowd

Wow what a sick show! Beatdown productions is back in a big way throwing rager after rager. This is the third one they’ve thrown recently at The Waterfront in Holyoke MA, and the biggest so far topping 700 people at the door by one estimate I heard. 3 stages of sound and a huge, giant-balled B-boy competition. I had a great time tag teaming with TCC, a master junglist from the Threshold Crew in Connecticut. Pictures are up on Fresh Mixes here.
